Arts, Culture, and Music

ArtSpace Maynard

ArtSpace is a vibrant artistic community dedicated to expanding community engagement through exhibition opportunities, classes, workshops, and a membership program.  

Fine Arts Movie Theater

Since 1949, Fine Arts Theatre Place has brought cinematic magic to Maynard and the Metro West community. Has three screens and also houses Theater Creamery.

Maynard Community Band

The Maynard Community Band (MCB) is a 50 piece ensemble founded in 1947. We are an all-volunteer self-sufficient band that does not require any fees or dues and does not require any auditions. The band plays a wide variety of band literature, focusing on quality concert music, standard band repertoire and modern compositions. Performances include 10-12 annual outdoor summer concerts as well as spring and fall performances ending with our Holiday Christmas concert in mid-December.

Maynard Cultural Council

Supports community cultural projects through its grant programs. It awards grants to local organizations that adhere to the Massachusetts Cultural Council Guidelines as well as our local Maynard Guidelines. Local and regional artists and arts organizations are eligible to apply for grants. The Council, appointed by the selectmen, places priority on new initiatives and gives preference to artists and events that benefit Maynard.

Maynard Business Alliance

A non-profit business league committed to promoting Maynard as a destination for shopping, dining, the arts, business services, and special events.

Assabet Valley Chamber of Commerce

The Chamber represents close to 300 businesses from Berlin, Bolton, Hudson, Maynard, Stow, and beyond. This organization also puts together the yearly MaynardFest in early October.

Middlesex West Chamber of Commerce

This chamber serves the people of Acton, Boxborough, Carlisle, Concord, Littleton, Maynard, Stow, and Westford. Membership includes more than 220 member businesses and non-profit organizations, including schools, hospitals, and cultural organizations.

Boys and Girls Club of Assabet Valley

The mission of the Boys & Girls Club of Assabet Valley is to promote the growth of young people in our community by empowering them to be productive, caring, and responsible citizens. 

Green Maynard

The mission of Green Maynard is to protect, preserve, and celebrate our connection to the natural environment. By partnering with and mobilizing the power of community, we raise awareness about the climate crisis and advocate for sustainable policies. We share information about local, state, and federal resources; support the community in making sustainable choices in our everyday lives; and encourage practices that maximize the use of natural solutions.

Maynard Community Farmers Market

Held in the Mill Pond Lot on Main Street. Since 1996, the Market has offered shoppers the freshest local produce and products in a vibrant and friendly atmosphere that makes shopping an enjoyable experience. Held every Saturday from 9am to 1pm, rain or shine, starting the last Saturday in June and running until the last Saturday in September. The market offers weekly musical performances, kids' activities, information about local nonprofit groups, and a place to visit with friends and neighbors. The market is always looking for volunteers to join the team. 

Maynard Community Gardeners

The MCG are an organization devoted to town beautification, promoting a love of gardening, and connecting with other gardeners in the Maynard area. Membership is open to anyone who shares these interests. 

Maynard Community Chest

Maynard Community Chest is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization that strengthens our community by supporting local charitable agencies that provide a broad range of essential human services to people who live or work in Maynard, Massachusetts. The Community Chest supports 19 organizations and provides many kinds of services to Maynard residents of all ages, abilities and types of need. Local community volunteers keep fundraising and operating costs low. The Community Chest has no paid staff. The Community Chest is independently audited each year and requires a thorough financial disclosure from all agencies. As long as you live or work in Maynard, MA, you are eligible to receive the services provided by our Member Agencies.

Maynard Dog Owners (MayDog)

Nonprofit organization promoting responsible dog ownership and building community through safe, legal off-leash recreation for residents of Maynard, MA and the surrounding area. This group also maintains the dog park located at the southwest edge of the Maynard solar field on Waltham Street. More information on the park can be found on their website.

Maynard Family Network 

A non-profit, volunteer organization working together to provide social support and resources to families with small children living in Maynard, Massachusetts.

Events and News

 

Unfortunately in 2022, Maynard's newspaper, the Beacon-Villager, ceased to exist. Until the time that a new source of local news arrives, the town is currently in a news desert. Major news in town is occasionally covered by the Boston Globe and the Metrowest Daily News.

Townwide Mall News

A collaborative project started by Maynard resident Glenn Koenig to cover news in Maynard in the absence of a traditional newspaper.

WAVM 91.7 FM and Cable TV-8 (Student run radio and television stations)

WAVM is a completely student-run radio and television station situated in Maynard High School. WAVM serves the local community in all sorts of ways from its weekly church radio-broadcasts to its annual Beacon Santa Telethon which raises tens of thousands of dollars for the needy families of Massachusetts each year.

Monthly editions with articles about what is happening or being considered in Maynard, progress reports on local and municipal initiatives, local business  spotlights, and much more.

 

Food and Food Assistance

 


Maynard Food Pantry

Maynard Food Pantry provides food assistance to any individual or family in need and serves residents of Maynard, Acton, Stow and Sudbury.  Maynard Shoppers are welcome to shop two times/month and out-of-town residents are welcome to shop one time monthly.  The Maynard Food Pantry also provides Thanksgiving and Holiday dinner baskets for its shoppers. The Maynard Food Pantry is open Mondays from 10am-12pm.

Open Table

Open Table's mission is to end hunger in our local community by providing healthy food in ways that respect the dignity and diversity of those served. The organization maintains a open-air drive-thru pantry service. Volunteers bring pre-packed bags of groceries to cars with distribution available in the Maynard Municipal Parking Lot located between Summer Street and Main Street.

Assabet Co-op Market

A community-owned grocery store in Maynard that prioritizes local farms and food producers. More than 2,100 owners are on board, and will open their doors in late Spring/early Summer of 2023.

Emerson Urgent Care - Maynard

Emerson Health Urgent Care Maynard is located in the Maynard Crossing Plaza off Parker Street (route 27) in Maynard. It is part of the Emerson Health network and is here to complement your primary care doctor when you cannot schedule a timely appointment or do not have a primary care doctor. Our urgent care clinic can help you with your immediate medical need. Emerson’s board-certified physicians are experienced in caring for patients of all ages for a variety of conditions.

Emerson Hospital is located approximately 5 miles (10 minute drive) from most parts of Maynard.  The Emergency Department, open 24 hours a day, 365 days per year, is staffed by board certified emergency physicians and by nurses who have specialized training in emergency medicine. The Emergency Department, which cares for approximately 37,000 patients per year, is a fully-equipped, 22 bed facility with specialized treatment rooms for resuscitation, eye, ear, nose and throat problems, orthopedic injuries and obstetrical emergencies.


History
 

Maynard Historical Commission

Preserves, protects, and develops the historic and archaeological assets of the community and ensures the goals of historic preservation are considered in the planning and future development of the community. Responsible for recent projects such as the Historic Home Plaques, Historic Walking Tours, Glenwood Cemetery Fence Restoration, and more. The Commission typically meets third Tuesday of every month starting at 6pm at the Maynard Public Library.

Maynard Historical Society

The Maynard Historical Society promotes the need to remember the history of Maynard and history in general. As part of the survey, cataloging, and digitization of the Collection we are making a large portion the collection available online. Visit the Maynard Historical Society Archives for great finds in our collection.

Maynard Historic Walking Tours

Enjoy all the historical areas in Maynard with the Maynard Historic Commission's printable self guided tours. Printed brochures are also available at the Maynard Public Library's Local History Collection.

Maynard Hometown Heroes

Honors Maynard's veterans on poles at the entrances to town. Any Maynard-based veteran, whether native or new resident, is welcome to be a part of the program. 

Maynard High School Athletic Hall of Fame

Its mission is to honor and perpetuate the memory of all former MHS students, coaches, and associated persons who have brought pride and distinction to the school system, the Town of Maynard, and themselves.

Hudson Adult Learning Center

Since 1985, Hudson Adult Learning Center has been supporting the Assabet Valley community through a multitude of education and career readiness programs. We offer Free English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and GED/HiSet Preparation Classes for High School Equivalency. Coming soon: a comprehensive program in digital literacy as well, all at no cost to the students!

 

Acton-Boxboro Community Education
The Acton-Boxborough Community Education Program attempts to involve community members in education and community service activities, leading to individual and community development.

Assabet After Dark

Assabet After Dark is the Adult Continuing Education program located at Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School in Marlborough. Career and Licensing courses include Auto Damage Appraiser, Electrical Code & Theory for the Journeyman's License, Master Electrician, Cosmetology, CNA, EMT, EKG Technician, Real Estate Salesperson's Training, Home Inspection License Prep, and Construction Supervisor Unrestricted License Exam Prep. Additionally, the program offers ESL classes, Welding workshops, Auto Body Repair workshops, career building classes, and much more!


Concord-Carlisle Community Education

Concord-Carlisle Community Education provides opportunities for lifelong learning to the citizens of the school district and surrounding towns.  Offers a variety of topics including computer applications, language, writing/publishing, graphic arts, and much more. 

Lincoln-Sudbury Community Education
Provides a wide variety of adult education courses as well as an EMT course and a Driver's Education program.

Senior Services

Council on Aging (978-897-1009)

Promotes and supports healthy aging for the town's senior citizens. This groups seeks to assist seniors maintain dignity, independence and physical and psycho-social well-being through programs and services designed for them and their care givers. The COA has a monthly newsletter with all upcoming programs and services.

Operates five days a week from 7 am to 3 pm, providing transportation to essential services such as health care providers, dentists, pharmacies, banks, hair salons and grocery stores. Residents over the age of 60 and individuals with disabilities of any age may use the van. If a rider is handicapped in any way, please let the Council on Aging know so accommodations can be made.

Assabet River Rail Trail

The Assabet River Rail Trail is a partially-completed multi-use rail trail running through the cities and towns of Marlborough, Hudson, Stow, Maynard, and Acton.

Maynard Open Space and Trails Maps

Assabet River National Wildlife Refuge

Formerly referred to as the U.S. Army's Fort Devens-Sudbury Training Annex) is a 2,230-acre protected National Wildlife Refuge located  along the Assabet River. It is located in portions of the towns of Hudson, Maynard, Stow and Sudbury. The Assabet River National Wildlife Refuge consists of two separate pieces of land. The larger northern section is just north of Hudson Road, extending north to the Assabet River. The southern section is located to the south of Hudson Road. There is a visitor center located in the northern section on Winterberry Way. Click here for a walking tour brochure of the refuge.

The shuttle runs between downtown Maynard and the South Acton Commuter Rail station with stops at Mill and Main, downtown Maynard, and the Maynard Gold Course.
